Ice Crean (Heat Treatment, etc.) Regulations, 1959
Supervision of the Manufacture and Distribution of Ice Cream.
During the year 518 visits were paid to ice cream premises and vehicles.
The number of premises registered:-
(a) for manufacture, sale and storage 6
(b) for sale and storage 369
(c) for sale only 179
(d) for storage only 1

1. Bacteriological Examination.
(a) Ice Cream
Thirty-one samples of ice cream were sent for bacteriological examination and
following Methylene Blue tests were graded as follows:-
Grade I 11
Grade II 9
Grade III 4
Grade IV 7

Samples falling within Grades I or II are considered satisfactory.
The 11 samples which were graded III and IV respectively were taken from a retail
shop whose supply of ice cream comes from another area. The Authority concerned was
informed and appropriate action taken An improvement in the bacteriological standard
resulted and samples taken subsequently were graded I and II. It is proposed to continue
sampling ice cream from this particular source next year.
