On 23rd March the last licensee in occupation of requisitioned premises was rehoused.
This meant that the first phase of the de requisitioning programme was completed
well before the terminal date, under the Requisitioned Houses and Housing (Amendment) Act,
1955, viz. 31st March, 1960.
Two certificates under Section 5 of the Housing Act 1957, were issued to the effect
that several tenements were so constructed as to secure effective ventilation of all habitable
rooms in every tenement. These were in relation to two flats in Block E and four flats in
Block H, Peabody Estate, Greenman Street, where works of improvements and conversions have
continued.
One of the Inspectors appointed to carry out duties under the Housing Act left the
services of the Council in January and it has not been possible to fill the vacancy during
the year.
