Whooping Cough
In 1958 I reported that the Incidence of whooping cough was the lowest in the Borough
since this infection became notifiable in 1939. Although there were rather more cases
notified in 1959, the totals in each of the last two years are less than in any previous
years. Very substantial numbers of children have now been immunised against whooping cough
and since this is the only new factor which has been introduced within recent years it is
reasonable to assume that mass protection of young children against whooping cough is now
beginning to show definite effects.
