Islington Borough Home Safety Committee
At the beginning of the year the Ministry of Health issued Circular 6/58,
with Memorandum on the subject of Accidents in the Home, expressing concern at
the number of such accidents, and recommending action by local health authorities,
including the establishment of home safety committees, for the purpose of keeping
the public informed of the precautions which should be taken in the home. The
circular was addressed to County and County Borough Councils, but by virtue of
Section 82 of the London County Council (General Powers) Act 1957. the Metropoli
tan Borough Councils have powers of publicity concurrent with those of the County
Council.
Islington Borough Council has for some few years past manifested interest
In the prevention of home accidents, and in view of the Ministry of Health" s
Circular and Memorandum, it was considered that more systematic and concerted
educational work on safety in the home should be undertaken. The Council there
fore decided to form an Islington Borough Home Safety Committee, the Constitution
of which is as follows:-
1. Terns of Reference
The objects of the Islington Borough Home Safety Committee (hereinafter
called " the Committee ") are to promote safety in the home to encourage the
taking of proper precautions for avoiding the occurrence of accidents therein, and
making arrangements for the dissemination within the Borough of information and
advice relating to such matters under the general direction of and subject in
all matters, including the incurring of expenditure, to the approval of the
Public Health Committee of the Islington Borough Council.
2. Appointments of Honorary President
His Worship the Mayor shall be invited to be Honorary President.

3 Constitution

The Committee shall comprise the following:-
