Samples falling within grades I or II of the Methylene Blue Test are considered
satisfactory and those within III or IV unsatisfactory.
Fifty-three ice lollies were sent to the bacteriologist for examination and of
these eleven were found to be unsatisfactory.
Chemical Examinations.
Seven samples of ice-cream and three ice lollies were submitted for chemical
analysis and no adverse report was received. Details of the seven samples of icecream
examined for fat content are as under:—

Milk Samples.
The total number of samples taken for chemical and bacteriological examination
during 1957 was 200.

There are fourteen major suppliers of milk into the Borough, the supplies
of which have been subjected to periodical sampling.

Five samples of tuberculin tested raw milk were taken for biological test for
tuberculosis. The result in each case was negative. Other samples were goat's milk
which passed Methylene Blue test and a sample of machined skimmed milk which
failed Turbidity test.
