Noise Nuisances
Complaints of noise nuisances are on the increase. A petition was received
regarding the noise from a sawmill in the borough and upon the Inspector interviewing
the Company's representative, and obtaining his co-operation, the factory wall
was lined and the machine in question surrounded by 1,350 square feet of acoustic
tiling. This has resulted in keeping the noise nuisance to a minimum.
Investigations have often to be made into complaints from power machines
operated in domestic premises after normal working hours and during weekends. An
endeavour is made to get the machines sited on rubber pads near to an outside wall
and the owners to operate them within reasonable hours.
Details of the action taken in respect of complaints received of alleged noise
nuisances during the year are as follows :—
Number of complaints of noise nuisances 35
Number of inspections 79
Number of revisits 152
Number of Notices served 2
Number of Notices complied with ...

Pigeon Nuisances.
During the year several complaints were received concerning nuisances caused
by ownerless pigeons. The Council, in implementing the powers given under this
Section, engaged an authorised pigeon catcher who dealt with a large number of
these birds which congregated in a square and also in two schools, causing nuisance
or annoyance to the occupants or residents in the vicinity.
