by the Deputy Medical Officer of Health this aged person was found to be suffering from severe anae-mia and malnutrition, and the home was in a very in-sanitary state. A J.P. made an Order.
(6) Miss D. (80 years)This case was brought to the Departments notice fol-lowing an urgent 'telephone call from the local police as to the squalid conditions under which this aged person was living. Miss D. was found to be seriously ill and all offers of assistance were refused. A J.P. made an Order fol-lowing a visit by the Deputy Medical Officer of Health and the patient's doctor.Not exceeding three weeksGeneral HospitalPatient deceased with-in 24 hours of ad-mission to hospital and case reported to Coroner. A post-mortem was carried out—no inquest.
(7) Miss B. (71 years)This aged person had been the subject of previous statutory action under the principal Act in 1953 and rehabilitation had taken place as far as possible as a result of care in a Wel-fare Home for a period of six weeks. Upon her re-turn home all help was refused. Following a collapse in the street a further visit was made to her home and it was apparent again that she was unable to care for herself The one room occupied was insanitary. There was a serious fire risk from a small oil-stove used for cooking. A ten-ant also complained of nuisances from smells, etc. A Magistrate made an Order for her detention and maintenance in a Welfare Home for a period of not exceeding three months and this was further exten-ded by a similar period, following action under Section 47(4) of the Act.See column (2)Welfare HomeTransferred to mental hospital.
(8) Mrs. N. (84 years)At the urgent request of the patient's doctor, following an ambulance being turned away at the house, a J.P. was asked to make an Order in this case.Not exceeding three weeksGeneral HospitalSettled down in hos-pital after detention period expired. De-ceased four and a half months after admission when ar-rangements in hand for transfer to hos-pital near to daugh-ter's home.
