SECTION F—MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES
HEALTH PUBLICITY
Exhibitions.
The Department's main activity in this field during the year was the production
of a major Health Exhibition, which was held in October.
This Exhibition was formally opened by the Rt. Hon. James Griffiths, P.C., M.P.,
and remained open to the public during the whole of the week, October 4th-9th
inclusive. It is estimated, according to an approximate count kept at the door, that
the Exhibition was seen by not less than 5,000 visitors. This must be considered
as a very favourable response on the part of the public, and it is interesting to note
that the largest attendance of any single day was on Saturday, the last day of the
Exhibition, when there were over a thousand visitors.
There were many attractive and interesting exhibits on the stands, a high
proportion of which had not previously been shewn anywhere and were specially
collected, devised, or arranged for this Exhibition. Some important Exhibitors had
never previously taken part in publicity work of this description ; these included the
London Executive Council, responsible for the general medical and dental practitioner
services, pharmaceutical and supplementary ophthalmic services within the
County, the North West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board, the Chemical
Branch of the London County Council, and the Department of Scientific and
Industrial Research. Nevertheless, the Exhibitors expressed their satisfaction with
the public response, and considered the Exhibition worth-while from their respective
points of view.
The principal object of the Exhibition was to provide the public with information
of all the various health and allied services which are available to them—and
some conception of the scope of these different services. So far as is known this
Exhibition was unique in character, and it is doubtful whether many other Health
Authorities have attempted anything comparable in scope or comprehensiveness.
