Illegitimate Births.—The illegitimate births numbered 222 and show an
increase of 49 on the return of the year 1935. They were equal to a rate of 4.5 per
cent. of the total registered births.
Notification of Births.—3,942 live births were notified under the Notification of Births Act, 1907, and the Public Health (London) Act, 1936 (exclusive of 101 stillborn), or 83 per cent. of the total number that were registered during the year.

The above are the corrected figures. The actual number of stillbirths registered
in Islington was 118, plus 36 which took place outside the Borough, but belonging
to it, minus 15 non-residents which took place in the Borough.
DEATHS.
The deaths registered during the year numbered 3,856 (exclusive of still-births),
while the death-rate was equal to 12.44 per 1,000 of the estimated population,
or 1.45 above that of the previous year (10.99), and 0.09 below the mean of the
preceding ten years; whilst the death-rate of England and Wales was 12.1 and
the 121 Great Towns 12.3.
