The Minister of Health has to be furnished with a quarterly report by the
Medical Officer of Health giving an abstract of the reports forwarded by the
medical practitioners, the cost of the Insulin supplied by the Borough Council,
and any general remarks as to the working of the arrangements.
So far the demand for such assistance for patients comes through the
Almoners of three of the largest hospitals. During the year under review 8 cases
have received this assistance from the Borough Council, the cost of the Insulin
supplied being £26 2s. Od.
BLIND PERSONS ACT, 1920.
Under this heading the number of "Totally Blind" and "Partially Blind"
children under 5 years of age coming to the knowledge of the Medical Officer of
Health, and under supervision either of the H.Vs. or Voluntary Welfare Centres
in the Borough, during the year 1932 were:—" Totally Blind," 2 (one of whom
reached the age of 5 years in August);" Partially Blind," 8 {including 3 new
cases). One of the former cases reached the age of 5 years in July.
TUBERCULOSIS.
577 cases of Tuberculosis in its different forms were notified during the year.
The attack-rate was equal to 1.78 per 1,000 of the civil population. This number
was a decrease of 11 on the return of the previous year, and of 0.03 per 1,000 on
the attack-ratc.
Respiratory (Pulmonary) Tuberculosis.—474 notifications were
received, of which 272 referred to males and 202 to females, and represented an
attack-rate of 1.46 per 1,000 inhabitants.
