There was a decrease of 182 deaths in the number of deaths under 5 years of
age when compared with the average deaths at those ages during the preceding
ten years; whilst the number of registered deaths at the several age periods up
to between 5-65 years, were also below the decennial average.
The deaths of aged people between the age period 65 years and upwards
showed a decrease of 23 in the number of deaths when contrasted with the previous
year 1931, and were 163 above the ten years' average (1922-31).
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Infant Deaths, 340; Mortality Rate, 68.—The deaths ot 340 infants
under twelve months old were registered during the year, or 78 below the
decennial average (418), and they were equal to the infantile rate of 68 per 1,000
births. The lowest rate on record, however, is 53 per thousand births in the year
