MARRIAGES.
Marriages, 2,957 ; Marriage Rate, 18.21.—There were 5,914 persons
married or 2,957 marriages, in 1931, and the marriage rate, that is to say, the
number of persons married per 1,000 of the population was 18.21. Compared with
the previous year these figures show a decrease of 212 in the number of persons
married, or of 106 marriages; and of 0.59 per 1,000 in the rate.

BIRTHS.
During the year there was 5,281 live births registered, of which 2,731 were
boys and 2,550 girls. Of this number, however, 1,136 were born of mothers
living in Islington, although they were confined in Lying-in Institutions, and in
other homes situated outside the Borough. The annual birth-rate was equal to
1G.3 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with a mean birth-rate of 19.7 in the
preceding ten years.
The lowest birth-rate recorded was 16.2 in the year 1918.
