DEATHS IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.
Within the Borough..2,326 persons died in the Public Institutions
located in Islington, of whom 1,570 belonged to this Borough, the remaining 756
having come here for treatment or relief. Of these, 440 died in the Archway
House, 146 in the Royal Northern Central Hospital, 60 in the London Fever
Hospital, and 26 in the Islington Institution and Islington Infirmary.
Of the 1,570 deaths of inhabitants, 1,142 occurred in the Islington Infirmary,
253 in the Islington Institution, and 113 in the Royal Northern Central Hospital.
The proportion which the 1,570 deaths in the Public Institutions bore to the
Borough mortality was 39.9 per cent.
Without the Borough..851 deaths of persons belonging to Islington
were registered as occurring in Public Institutions in districts of London outside
the Borough and in various provincial towns. They included, among others,
29 in the North.Western Fever Hospital, 23 in the Children's Hospital, Great
Ormond Street, 74 in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 22 in the Colney Hatch Mental
Hospital, 59 in the Royal Free Hospital, 64 in the University College Hospital,
24 in the North.Eastern Fever Hospital, 19 in the Eastern Fever Hospital, 23 in
the Middlesex Hospital, 13 in the City of London Maternity Hospital, and 30 in
the Metropolitan Hospital.
These 851 deaths represented 21.6 per cent. of all the deaths registered in
the year.
Within and Without the Borough..The deaths of Islingtonians
numbered 2,421 and were equal to 61.5 per cent. of the total deaths registered
during the year.
Fatal Accidents or Sudden Deaths outside the Borough..
26 inhabitants died from accidental deaths, or suddenly, in places outside Islington.
During the previous year (1929) the total deaths in Local Institutions numbered
2,535, being 1,739 inhabitants of Islington in Local Institutions, plus 796
non.inhabitants of Islington in Local Institutions, the number in Islington
Infirmary being 1,269, the number in the Royal Northern Hospital 118. The
deaths of inhabitants of Islington in Institutions outside the Borough were 938.
The total deaths in all Institutions, 2,677; and the proportion per 100 deaths from
all causes, 56.4.
Transferable Deaths..During the year 51 deaths of residents that had
occurred in outlying Institutions and other places in Provincial Boroughs were
transferred by the Registrar.General to Islington.
MORTALITY FROM THE PRINCIPAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES.
Small Pox, Measles, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria, Fevers.
Typhus, Enteric and Continued.and Diarrhoeal Diseases.
During the year 223 persons died from these diseases, the death.rate being
0.68 per 1,000 inhabitants, as contrasted with 0.60 in the corresponding period
last year, and a decennial average mortality of 219 and a death.rate of 0.67 per
1,000.
In London the death.rate from the epidemic disease was 0.47.
