MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE.

A contribution of £25 was made to the Islington Branch of the Invalid
Children's Aid Association in respect of convalescence of invalid children under
five years of age.
† Important changes in the law on and from 1st April, 1930, relating to contributions
to Voluntary Associations, including welfare centres and day nurseries, in
respect of maternity and child welfare were made by sec. 101 (6) of the Local
Government Act, 1929, which is quoted as follows :.
(6) As respects the County of London, the Minister shall before the
beginning of each fixed grant period, after consultation with the Councils
concerned, make a scheme determining, in relation to Voluntary Associations
providing maternity and child welfare services, which of those services are to
be treated as services in respect of which the London County Council are to
contribute and which are services in respect of which the Common Council of
the City of London and the Councils of the Metropolitan Boroughs are to
contribute; and the scheme shall provide for the payment during the fixed
grant period to the Association by the several Councils of contributions of such
amount as may be specified in the scheme.
Contributions for Maternity and Child Welfare Work per Case in Respect
of Work Done.
The Islington Borough Council has an arrangement with the North London
Nursing Association for the attendance, by visitation, in cases of Ophthalmia
Neonatorum, Acute Primary Pneumonia, Acute Influenzal Pneumonia, Measles,
Whooping Cough and Epidemic Diarrhoea. The payments made to this Association,
at the rate of one shilling per visit, were:.

Contributions under arrangements for maternity cases admitted to beds at
Maternity Hospitals, the contributions being a grant of 10s. per case, were: City
of London Maternity Hospital, £70 10s. Od.; Royal Free Hospital, £16 10s. Od.
In addition to these cases of Ophthalmia Neonatorum and Marasmus are admitted
to the Metropolitan Asylums Board's Hospital (St. Margaret's), Camden Town,
N.W.
