About the only provision under an Act under which no action had to be taken
might be mentioned the provisions in the London County Council (General Powers)
Act, 1927, which provides for nuisances by pigeons. Unlike some of the neighbouring
boroughs, no action was called for.
HOUSES LET IN LODGINGS.
The 1,011 houses which come under the operation of the bye-laws received
787 inspections during the year, followed by 3,785 subsequent re-inspections and
calls, so that the total visits amounted to 4,572.
These inspections resulted in 570 intimations being served on the persons
responsible, which were followed by 119 statutory notices to demand the abatement
of the nuisances discovered by the inspector especially engaged upon this work.
Two prosecutions for non-compliance with the notices served were instituted, and
an order was made by the magistrate for the necessary work to be done with
payment of £1 1s. costs.
Altogether 2,329 improvements were effected in 471 premises.
We have had now for some years a vacancy in this specialised department,
the work being done by one Inspector, where formerly there were two.
