In connection with the work of the Sanitary Inspector, some reference has
already been made as to new legislation. The following additional references to
duties as regards food, etc., show how widespread his work is.
Dairies and Milkshops. Under the Milk and Dairies Order of 1926 provision
is made for registration. Contamination of milk is dealt with under the following
heads:—
1. Lack of cleanliness.
2. Keeping of animals in dairy.
3. Insufficient light and ventilation.
4. Dampness.
5. Defective milk vessels.
6. Prohibition of bottling of milk in the street.
7. Defective, or ill-designed churns, lids permitting entrance of dirt,

Bacteriological examination of milk.
Food.—Section 8 of the London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1908—
storage of food.
