Midwives Act, 1902 and 1918.
In connection with these Acts we received information from tlie Medical
Officer of Health of the London County Council, of slight inflammation in the eyes
of eight other infants, all of whom made complete recovery.
Whooping Cough.
Visits were paid to 173 persons suffering from whooping cough. Of these,
107 were notified by doctors; in 38 others the information was derived from the
schools, in 23 from health visitors and in 5 from the L.C.C.
Age.
Sixteen were children under 1 year, 99 were aged 1 to 5, and 57 were 5 to
16 years, and 1 was an adult.
Spread of Infection in Family.
The 173 cases occurred in 125 families. In 89 families 1 case occurred; in
25 families 2 cases occurred, and in 10 families 3 cases occurred, and in 1 family
there were 4 cases.
Removal.
Forty children were removed to hospital, approximately 23 per cent.
All these were admitted to hospitals of the L.C.C.
Measles.
The notification of measles was discontinued at the end of 1919 but during
1932 I received information of 295 cases of measles. Of these 113 were notified
by school teachers and 109 by medical practitioners; information of 33 was given by
hospital authorities, 21 by health visitors, 19 by parents.
Age.
Nine were under 1 year, 158 were between 1 and 5 years, 109 were between 5
and 16 years, and 19 were over 16.
Deaths.
One child died, set 1½ years.
Spread in Family.
The 295 cases occurred in 240 families. In 197 families 1 case occurred, in
33 families 2 cases occurred, in 9 families 3 cases occurred, and in 1 family there
were 5 cases.
Removals.
One hundred and thirteen patients (38 per cent.) were removed to hospital, 110
to L.C.C. infectious diseases hospitals, and 3 to the London Fever Hospital.
Measles Control in Schools.
The special arrangements of the London County Council for securing through
the school organisation earlier information of measles was continued.
German Measles.
During the year information was received relating to 8 oases; 4 were notified by doctors,
and information of 2 cases was received from schools, and 2 from hospitals.
