Co-operation with the School Organisation.
Arrangements were made for about 1,000 senior children from all the
elementary schools in the Borough to visit the Town Hall to see ft selection of the
films. Subsequently these children wrote essays on the lessons learnt from the
pictures. The best three essays in each school department were selected by the
Head Teachers for sending in to the Public Health Office for prize award; two
prizes, one for boys and one for girls were assigned to each school. The Mayor
and Mayoress (Councillor Percy Hill, J.P., L.C.C., and Mrs. Hill) kindly
entertained to tea the prize winners and the children whose essays were selected
from the various schools. We are much indebted to the teachers for their kind
and invaluable co-operation. It is they who establish in the minds of the children
a " health conscience."
Health Poster Designs.
Children in the elementary schools were again invited to enter a competition
in the designing of health posters. Thirty-six designs were submitted from three
schools. Two prizes were awarded, one going to St. John's School and one to St.
Peter's. Arrangements were made for children from the various schools to see
the posters at the Town Hall.
Special Meeting for Mothers.
On Thursday in Health Week instead of the usual class, Dr. Hyslop Thomson,
Medical Officer of Health of the County of Hertfordshire, spoke on the " Care of
the Child from Two to Five Years."
