As in previous years a leaflet respecting the advantages of vaccination was
sent to the parents of all infants born in, or belonging to, the Borough. No
opportunity is lost of speaking about the vital importance of vaccination whether
for the baby or for the older person.
Public Health (Smallpox Prevention) Regulations, 1917.
Under the above Regulations 101 vaccinations were also performed during the
year, viz. : (a) primary, 14 vaccinations; and (b) revaccinations 87.
Information Supplied Through the London County Council.
Following the arrangements operating in previous years, information of all
cases of smallpox in the Greater1 London area giving particulars of the illness and
the names and addresses of contacts was distributed to the Borough Medical
Officers of Health by the Medical Officer of the London County Council. During
the year information of 1,452 cases in the County of London and 1,125 cases in
extra-Metropolitan district was received.
Diphtheria.
We received notifications relating to 69 cases of diphtheria occurring in
residents in the Borough; of these, four were sent in as being " carriers " of
diphtheria bacilli.
Sixty-eight were removed to hospital. The " carriers " were also removed to
hospital.

No death occurred.
Fourteen of the notified cases were returned from hospital certified as not
Suffering from diphtheria.
