modernisation and an automatic plant for mechanical handling of bottles is
being installed.
There are six "High temperature - short time" pasteurising plants
in which the milk is heated to and retained at a temperature of 161°F.for
15 seconds and is then cooled to below 50°F., in accordance with the requirements
of the Milk (Special Designation) Regulations 1963/65. Some of
the milk is distributed in churns after pasteurising - the remainder is
bottled or filled into cartons.
At regular intervals a Senior Food Inspector checks the efficiency
and temperature of working plants and takes samples to ensure that they
comply with the requirements of the Milk (Special Designation) Regulations
1963/65.
All samples taken from these milk plants were reported to be satisfactory.

Markets
There are seven markets in the Borough, five of which are street
trading sites. During 1968 substantial improvements were made in the toilet
facilities in one of the private markets, whilst in two of the street
trading sites the number of stalls is now one only.
Little progress has been made towards a satisfactory solution to
the problems of trading in North End Road but negotiations are well advanced
in the Central Hammersmith Development Scheme under which the Bradmore
Lane street trading site will be changed.
All street and market stalls are regularly inspected.
