    The number of marriages was 1,448 an increase of 3 compared with the previous year.

    These figures show an increase on the previous year of 816 cases. This is largely due to the fact that there were many more cases of Measles. Whooping Cough and Pneumonia showed an increase. There was, however, a slight fall in the number of cases of Puerperal Pyrexia, Scarlet Fever and Food Poisoning. Full details are given under age groups in the following table:—

    Bacteriological Examination of Food The following samples were submitted for bacteriological examination by the Public Health Laboratory service : —

    During the year 81 samples ot ice cream were taken tor bacteriological examinition and the Methylene Blue test by the Public Health Laboratory Service. The Methylene Blue test is recommended by the Ministry of Health as a guide for ascertaining the bacteriological cleanliness of ice cream.
