SECTION VII
MISCELLANEOUS
HEALTH EDUCATION SERVICE
Due to the growing definition of activities into specified areas,
the Report of the Health Education Service has been modified for
this year.
The areas of activity undertaken by the Service may be defined
as:
1. The Community.
2. Schools.
3. Health Centres.
4. The Directorate and other Departments of the Council.
5. Home Safety.
The Report for 1969, therefore, has been recast to allow for
individual consideration of these definitive areas.
1. THE COMMUNITY
Film Shows and Talks
One of the major and continuing activities of the Service in the
community as a whole is the positive offer of free film shows, talks
or combined programmes to local organisations in the Borough.
Over 400 organisations, comprising youth clubs, political groups,
religious gatherings, pensioners organisations, townswomen's guilds,
mothers and young wives clubs are circulated each year with details
of health education subjects available.
The response, as always, is considerable, and in 1969 some
168 organisations were visited. This represents a drop of 7 on the
1968 total and may indicate a tendency towards levelling off from
the upsurge of the previous four years.
Organisations visited comprised a broad cross-section of those
mentioned above. Audience figures varied in each group from as
low as 15 to over 100 in the case of pensioners organisations.
Health education subjects illustrated covered most of the range
indicated in the Appendix at the end of this section of the Report.
