Plumstead No. 2, Page Estate, Riverside, Royal Arsenal
Western Enclave, Nathan Way and Abbey Wood No. 4 Smoke
Control Areas
On the same date as the above-mentioned Areas were declared,
the Council approved in principle the Plumstead No. 2, Page
Estate, Riverside, Royal Arsenal Western Enclave, Nathan Way
and Abbey Wood No. 4 Smoke Control Areas with a view to
the making of Orders in the autumn of 1970. These areas respectively
comprise approximately 235, 310, 921, 85, 35 and 185 acres
and 3,180, 2,650, 650 dwellings; the Royal Arsenal Western Enclave,
Nathan Way and Abbey Wood No. 4 areas being wholly
industrial areas. The majority of the dwellings in the Page Estate
are Council owned.
At the end of the year there were 8,703 acres and 62,730
dwellings within operative Smoke Control Areas. Details in
respect of these Areas and that of Little Heath, St. Nicholas, Woolwich
Town Centre and Thamesmead are set out in the table below
and their respective coverage of the Borough shown on the
accompanying map.
