DEPARTMENTAL TRANSPORT
On 1st April, 1965, the total strength of the newly formed
Health and Welfare Department's transport fleet was 32 vehicles.
Thirteen were inherited from the Metropolitan Borough of
Greenwich, 12 from Metropolitan Woolwich and 7 from the
London County Council.
A Transport Organiser was appointed to administer the
deployment of men and vehicles and to arrange garaging, repairs
and the engagement of drivers.
During the year 1965/66, the Department took delivery of
6 more vehicles, for which provision had been made, bringing
the total fleet to 38. The main services to which these vehicles
were allocated were :—
