a House to House Collection and Street Appeal in aid of the
Association's funds
The collection was held in the first week of September and was
extremely well supported, the total proceedings being £201 7s. 7d.
After deduction of expenses amounting to lis. 7d. in respect of
permits a record sum of £200 16s. Od. was credited to the Association's
funds.
This was a really wonderful effort and the Committee are very
grateful indeed to all those who assisted in any way and, in particular,
to those elderly people who helped to collect on the day
of the Street Appeal.
We are pleased to report that the Worshipful the Mayor (Alderman
T. E. Smith, J.P.) has agreed to make application on behalf
of the Association for a similar appeal this year, an offer which
we readily accepted and application has been made for the appeal
to be held on Friday, 7th September, and for the House to House
Collection to be carried out during the week preceding that date.
Details will be sent to all organisations in the knowledge that their
members will once again give their wholehearted support in an
endeavour to exceed last year's very creditable result.
Visits to Old People's Homes—Arrangements were made for
those members of the Association who so desired, to visit Plumstead
Lodge on the 30th November, 1961, and Drake Court on the 1st
February, 1962. On both occasions the parties were made most
welcome and spent a very enjoyable afternoon, being very impressed
with the accommodation and facilities provided for the old people
at these two homes.
Invalid Wheelchairs—We reported at the last Annual Meeting
the proposed purchase of a number of invalid chairs for loan to
invalid persons. The Association now has nine of these chairs in
use. There are however, a small number of exceptionally heavy
invalids for whom the chairs at present in stock are inadequate
and we propose shortly to purchase a heavyweight chair for loan
to this type of invalid.
Acknowledgments.—Although many individual acknowledgments
have been expressed throughout the foregoing report, it is
not possible to mention personally everyone who has helped with
the work of the Association during the past year and we therefore
take this opportunity to place on record our sincere thanks and
appreciation to the members of all voluntary organisations and
many others who have given so much of their time on behalf of
the old people.
We would especially mention the Greenwich Borough Council
for the many and varied services they have continued to make
