We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all
those who assisted in preparing and serving the meals and looking
after the old people's comfort.
Christmas Food Parcels—As in past years, with the aid of a
grant from the Borough Council we were able to distribute food
parcels to 400 elderly homebound persons each of whom were
visited to ensure that only those who were strictly homebound or
aged 90 or over received a parcel. The high quality of the parcels
was maintained each containing the following :
Tea, biscuits, Christmas pudding, tin of fruit salad, tin of cream,
box of cheeses, sweets and chocolates.
Members of the Committee and other volunteers once again
packed and wrapped the parcels and assisted with the distribution.
Christmas is a busy time for everybody and we would like to express
our sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who, in spite of
the personal demands made upon them, devoted their time and
energy towards bringing a touch of Christmas cheer into the homes
of so many of our elderly homebound persons.
Several donations were also received with a request that parcels
be bought and distributed and, as a result, approximately 45 additional
homebound persons received parcels of varying contents.
Once again elderly persons with nobody to provide for them
on Christmas Day were not forgotten and 24 frozen Christmas
dinners consisting of chicken, vegetables and Christmas pudding
were purchased and delivered. These dinners merely had to be
heated for 20 minutes before eating.
Carol Service—The Carol Service held at St. Alfeges on the
7th December was well attended, nearly 180 elderly persons enjoying
the service. We are pleased to report that the church hall was
available for our use on this occasion and members of the Women's
Fellowship very kindly served tea, sandwiches and cakes, provided
by the Association, to all those present. Included in the congregation
were 20 invalid elderly persons for whom transport had been
arranged. The service was also attended by the Deputy Mayor
and Mayoress of Greenwich and several Chief Officers of the
Borough Council.
We are greatly indebted to the Church Authorities for the facilities
provided and would record our sincere appreciation to the
members of the Women's Fellowship and all others who helped to
make this service so successful.
Nativity Play—Having received an offer from the Headmistress
of Sherington Road Junior Girls' School to present a Nativity Play
