Chinese Frozen Whole Egg.—A special shipment of 12,727
packages was detained pending a 2% examination and of the 297
packages sampled, 31 gave evidence of salmonella contamination as
under :—
Salmonella thompson 28 packages
„ paratyphoid B 2 „
„ seftenberg 1 „
Detention notices were issued in respect of 11,634 packages and
subsequently a meeting was held at the Ministry of Health at which
representatives from the Commercial Counsellor's Department of
the Chinese Charge d'Affaires were present.
Eventually the consignment was sold for re-exportation and the
Port of London Health Authority was duly notified of details
regarding the vessels involved and estimated dates of departure
from this country.

Merchandise Marks Act, 1926.—Under the powers conferred
by this Act, Orders in Council have been made prohibiting the sale
or exposure for sale of imported foodstuffs unless bearing an indication
of the country of origin. Two hundred and twenty-nine inspections
were made to secure compliance with the various Orders but
on no occasion was it found necessary to take action against Vendors.
