Malaria.—Four notifications were received, three from the
Royal Herbert Hospital in connection with military personnel and
one concerned a civilian returning from overseas. Each case was
of the benign tertian type believed to have been contracted
abroad.
Tuberculosis.—During the year 99 notifications in respect of
confirmed casts of tuberculosis were received compared with 106
for 1954. Of these, 91 were of the pulmonary type and 8 nonpulmonary,
i.e., tuberculosis of parts of the body other than the
lungs.
The slight decrease in the figure for the current year appears to
be contrary to the general trend throughout the Country.
The following table gives the distribution :—
District | Pulmonary | Non-Pulmonary | Total |
---|---|---|---|
East Greenwich | 18 | 1 | 19 |
West Greenwich | 20 | 2 | 22 |
St. Nicholas, Deptford | 4 | — | 4 |
Charlton and Kidbrooke | 49 | 6 | 54 |
Totals | 91 | 8 | 99 |
Disinfection was offered and carried out in 22 cases including
63 rooms and 485 articles of clothing and bedding, etc.
The number of notified cases of Tuberculosis remaining on the Register at 31st December, 1955, was as follows :—
