METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS—1953
I am indebted to the Director of the National Maritime Museum
and, in particular, to Eng. Commander H. O. Hill, R.N., for the
following meteorological data for the year ended December, 1953 :—
Temperature :
The highest screen temperature 89°F. on 12th August.
The temperature exceeded 80°F. on 25th May (84°F.)
11th Aug. (81 °F.)
12th Aug. (89°F.)
The lowest screen temperature was 23°F. on 7th February (but
no observations were taken from 17th-30th Nov.)
The maximum temperatures during January, February,
November and December were : 53°F. on 28th January
58°F. on 25th February
58°F. on 8th, 9th, 13th
& 14th November
(but no observations were taken from 17th-30th November)
60°F. on 4th December
Sunshine :
Total hours recorded 1,442.4
The sunniest day was 24th July, when 14.1 hours of sunshine
were recorded.
There were 95 days when no sunshine was recorded, viz :—
