MATERNITY & CHILD WELFARE.
Infant Welfare Centres.—The year under review being the
first complete year since the end of the World War has once again
proved the popularity of the Welfare Centres.
When it is realised that the population of the Borough has
decreased by approximately 19,000 since 1938, it is interesting to
note that the total attendance of babies at the Centres during the
year, viz. 18,422, was almost the same as for the year 1938. This
can to some extent be attributed to the very much higher birth-rate
recorded.
The actual number of new cases seen at the Centres was 1,440
as compared with 1,136 for the previous year and 897 for the year
1938.
Particulars relating to the various Centres are given in the
following tables:—
