It is worthy of note that a 100% examination of cut mutton
yields .498% diseased pieces—whilst the 5% carcase examination
shows a diseased percentage of only .156%.
MERCHANDISE MARKS ACT, 1926.
Under the powers conferred by this Act, Orders in Council
have been made prohibiting the sale, or exposure for sale, of the
undermentioned imported foodstuffs, unless such bear an indication
of the country of origin.
Honey Apples
Currants Sultanas
Raisins Eggs in shell
Dried Eggs Oat Products
Frozen or Chilled Salmon Butter
Dead Poultry Meat
Routine inspections are made to secure compliance with the
various Orders, and on 20 occasions warnings were given because
of minor infringements and three warning letters were sent.
SUPERVISION OF FACTORIES WHERE FOOD IS
PREPARED.
Included among the premises where food is prepared are:—
flour-millers, brewers, mineral water, pharmaceutical sundries and
fruit canning factories. 16 inspections have been made of these
factories, and a satisfactory state of hygiene is maintained. It
was only found necessary to serve notices to cleanse and limewash
on two occasions.
