This is a decrease of nearly 8 tons as compared with 1937.
Examination of Foodstuffs imported at Wharves.—In
addition to the general inspection of foodstuffs landed at wharves,
the following called for detailed examination.
Meat, Offals, Fruit and Provisions, etc.
39,333 Carcases of Mutton and Lamb. 1 Side of Veal.
218 Bags of Pieces Mutton and Lamb. 605 Bags of Boneless Veal.
793 Quarters of Beef. 600 Ox-skirts.
117 Carcases of Pork. 4 Ox-tripes.
100 Sides of Pork. 80 Ox-livers.
344 Loins of Pork. 415 Tins Lambs' Livers.
2 Legs of Pork. 42 Tins Pork and Pigs'
163 Packages of Pork. Livers.
8,921 Packages of Offals (various). 40 Cartons Pigs' Kidneys.
34,092 Packages of Fruit (Oranges, 66 Lambs' Hearts.
Apples, Grapefruit, etc.).
100 Cases Canned Shrimps. 150 Cheeses.
25 Cases Mackerel Roes. 197 Bags of Sugar.
In addition 6,275 lbs. of Biscuits and 413 lbs. of Canned Beef
were examined at the request of the War Office. Of these 25 lbs.
Biscuits and 333 lbs. Canned Beef were rejected as unfit for human
consumption.
Caseous Lymphadenitis.—During the year the proportion of
carcases examined for this condition, irrespective of Country of
origin, remained at 5% and that for pieces of Mutton at 100%.
The results of the examination of the Mutton and lambs of 42 lbs.
weight and over, from Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and South
America, were as follows:—
