Minor Ailments.—A Doctor attends on Mondays at 2.30 p.m.
and alternate Thursdays at 2 p.m.; a nurse attends daily
(including Saturday mornings). Children can attend this clinic
without appointment, but if in school attendance should only
attend after school hours.
A further clinic is held at Sherington Road School where a
Doctor is in attendance on Tuesday afternoons. A nurse attends
each day as in the clinic mentioned above.
Nursery School
The Rachel MacMillan L.C.C. Nursery School continues its
good work in the St. Nicholas district of the Borough. I am informed
there are 120 Greenwich children attending the school.
The majority of the children attending are Toddlers and as it
is conducted on open-air lines the benefit to the children of the
locality is unquestionably of great value.
The School has associated with it a Convalescent Home at
Wrotham in Kent, to which children are drafted for holiday periods.
Arrangements have been made for Greenwich children attending
the School to have periods of convalescence as and when recommended
by the Welfare Doctor.
Milk, etc., Scheme
The Council has continued to supply milk, etc., to necessitous
cases, each case being investigated especially as to its financial condition
before a supply is granted. The milk may be granted free
or at a reduced cost to:—
(a) Nursing Mothers;
(b) Expectant Mothers from the first 3 months of pregnancy;
(c) Children up to 3 years of age and in exceptionable
stances to 5 years.
In addition dinners may also be given to nursing and expectant
mothers where the family income falls within the Council's scale. It
is a condition that these dinners must not be taken home, but must
be consumed by the mother herself on the premises.
Particulars of the amount of milk, etc., distributed will be
found in the following tables. The approximate cost to the Council
under this heading during the year was £3,900.
