co-operation between the St. Alfege Hospital Ante-Natal clinic and
the Borough Council clinics, as also with the Nursing Sisters of
St. John the Divine who provide for the St. Nicholas, Deptford
district and the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies who
operate in the Charlton area.
From information received from the London County Council
it is possible to state that 30 Midwives are practising in the Borough.
Infantile Mortality.—The total number of Deaths under
1 year of age was 66 as compared with 80 for the previous year.
The Infantile Mortality Rate is thus equal to 49 per 1,000 Births.
This is almost the lowest rate ever recorded being surpassed only
by the figure returned in the year 1930, when it was 46 per 1,000
Births, and is the lowest recorded of the Metropolitan Boroughs,
with the exception of Stoke Newington, the figure for which was
44. The rate for the previous year was 59, and the average for
the last ten vears 64.
The Infantile Mortality Rate for the County of London is 66, and that for the 122 large towns 63. The following are the local rates:—

Of the total of 66 Deaths, 25 died before attaining the age of one month (19 being in the first week).
