Bakehouses.
There are 7 underground and 9 above ground bakehouses in the
Borough. The general standard is satisfactory and during the year 146
visits were made.
Licensed Premises:
The number of premises licensed under the Licensing Act, 1953 for
the sale of intoxicating liquor in the Borough is 128. Of this number, 99 are
operated as Public Houses. During the year 271 inspections have been made
and advantage has been taken of transfers, to have improvements carried
out where necessary.
Licensed restaurants in the Borough now number 9 and in every new
application, the opportunity is taken to have the sanitary accommodation
improved in the premises.
The introduction of the Licensing Act 1961 has resulted in
applications being made for the establishment of 25 clubs in the Borough.
Supervision of these premises has been maintained and no adverse reports
have been received.
UNSOUND FOOD:
No formal seizure of food, other than meat, was deemed necessary
during the year, the co-operation between the department and the trade over
the past few years has been maintained.
During the year 86 visits were made apart from those connected with
meat inspection and 628 certificates were issued in connection with the
voluntary surrender of unsound food.
