During the year reports of unsatisfactory samples were received
in respect of nineteen samples. Pour of these were in regard to
Faggots, manufactured in the Borough. The reports stated that
the majority of samples contained various percentages of S. 02,
which preservative is not permitted in this class of meat product.
Investigations were carried out and samples of the ingredients
were examined. Eventually it was established that the adulteration
was due to negligence on the part of an employee, and further
samples were found to be satisfactory.
Some of the remainder of the other unsatisfactory samples were
in respect of samples of food purchased by the general public,
who considered that the food was not of the generally accepted
standard.
complaints of food:
Members of the public continue to bring specimens of food to
the public health department, in respect of which they consider
they have grounds for complaint. During the year eighteen complaints
have been received. The majority of these complaints were
justified and full investigations were carried out by the food
inspectors.
