It is pleasing to record that the co operation of both residents and the trades people within the Borough has been of a very high standard and during the five years under review it has not been necessary to serve any statutory notice or take legal action against any of them under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949

PET ANIMALS:
There is little trade in the Borough in pet animals Licenses
under the Pet Animals Act 1951 have been issued in respect of only 6
premises during the past 5 years, all of which were renewed in 1960.
Three were in respect of shops - two in respect of stalls and one in
respect of premises used for the breeding and sale of tropical fish
largely for export All the premises were inspected during the year
and a total of 13 formal visits were made
HEATING APPLIANCES:
Observations have constantly been made on all shops, warehouses
and stalls handling the sale of new and secondhand gas, electric or
oil fires to ensure that such appliances were adequately guarded in
accordance with the standards laid down Where necessary the prescribed
probe weight and burning tests were carried out by the Inspectors.
Apart from casual observations 18 formal inspections were made during
1960
In 1957 a summons was issued against a street trader for exposing
for sale a secondhand electric fire without a regulation guard The
case was however dismissed on the evidence submitted by the defendant
to the effect that the fire was not for sale but was in his possession
for repair.
