Slum Clearance
The position obtaining at the end of the year in respect of individual
Clearance Areas is summarised below:-
1. Ironmonger Passage Lizard Street - 3 premises
These premises were demolished during the year.
2. St. James Row - 8 premises
Three of the houses were demolished.
3. Galway Street - 168 premises
Rehousing of the tenants on this large area was completed and the
site practically cleared by the end of 1958.
4. Herbal Hill/Herbal Place - 7 premises
As a result of the Council's Clearance Order, a public enquiry
was held on the 11th November 1958.
5. Field Place - 7 premises.
This order was confirmed without modification on the 11th August
1958.
6. Medcalf Place - 15 premises
This order was confirmed without modification on the 18th November
1958.
7. King Square (No.l) Area - 26 premises
Following objections to the Council's Clearance Order, a public
enquiry was held by the Ministry on the 8th October 1958.
