These figures do not necessarily correspond, due to technical
reasons, with those shown in the report of the Chest Physician.
The non-pulmonary cases include:
2 Renal; 1 Meninges; 1 Adenitis; 1 Intestines; 1 Genital.
The notification rate for all forms of tuberculosis was 17.26 per
10,000. There has been little change in this rate or the distribution
of the cases as recorded above since 1946.

The total number of cases remaining on the register after adjustments for deaths and transfers was on 31st December 1956, as follows:

MalesFemalesTotal
Pulmonary153116269
Non-Pulmonary82129
161137298

The full details of each case obtained by the Tuberculosis Visitor
were, by kind co-operation of the London County Council, made available
to and any preventive measures possible co-ordinated with those of the
Borough Council.

There were five deaths from pulmonary tuberculosis as follows:

Males:77, 62, 57 & 31.
Females:56.

There were two deaths from non-pulmonary tuberculosis-a male
aged 84 and a female aged 26.
There was one death where the case was not notified.
The death rate for all forms of Tuberculosis showed the very
welcome drop from 42 in 1955 to 20: it remains however above the
national average which was 15 in 1955.
I should like to acknowledge the willing co-operation and facilities
for the interchange of information which have been provided by
the Chest Physician, Dr. W. D. R. Thompson, and his staff.
