London County Council are re-housing the tuberculosis patients as
quickly as possible. Most of those transferred were re-housed by
the L.C.C. in many of the new estates outside the Metropolitan
area.
The total number of cases x-rayed in the clinic during 1952
was 1,385.
The L.C.C. Tuberculosis Health Visitor—seconded to the
Chest Clinic—made 1,053 visits to homes in the Borough during the
year.
Each case was visited with a view to tracing the source of infection,
and advising on the prevention of the disease spreading, and on
giving any other assistance where necessary.
Disinfection was carried out—by the Finsbury Borough Council
—in a large number of cases.
Mass Radiography Unit 6D.
(Information kindly provided by Dr. W. D. R. Thompson, Medical
Director.)
The Mass Radiography Unit 6D has maintained its usual
services throughout the year under review, during which it examined
29,786 males, and 21,122 females, totalling 50,908. This represented
an aggregate of over seventeen hundred firms.
For the major part of the year, the Unit operated at the Mass
Radiography Centre, 20, Golden Lane, E.C.1, where it examined
workers and residents in the City of London and the Metropolitan
Boroughs of Finsbury, Shoreditch and Stepney.
At a meeting held on the 10th September, 1952, of the Health
Committee of the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury it was resolved
that the circulation of firms in Finsbury should be extended to
smaller firms. In the past the circulation has been limited to large
firms. It was also agreed that posters drawing attention to the
Mass Radiography Service should be displayed throughout the
Borough. These posters were provided by the Unit, while a copy
of the circular letter was enclosed with each rate receipt sent out by the
Borough Treasurer. The helpful co-operation by the Borough of
Finsbury is highly appreciated.
