The infant mortality rate breaks a new low record for this
Borough and represents a reduction of between 16 and 17 per cent,
of the previous record in 1950. It is only about one tenth of the
rate that prevailed at the beginning of the century, and less than one
third of that for 1946.
The neonatal mortality rate constituted also a low record and
it may be noted that there were no deaths in the first four weeks of
life from any causes other than congenital malformations and
Immaturity.
