MIDWIFERY: Under the Council's Midwifery arrangements as detailed in
previous annual reports the following numbers of patients were admitted to the
various hospitals.

(b) The City of London Maternity Hospital ... 48 (incl.Brocket
Hall cases)
(c) L.C.C.Emergency Maternity Homes ... ... 22
(d) St. Mary's (Islington) Hospital ... ... 53
Co-operation was maintained between the Hospitals concerned and the Maternity
and Child Welfare Department. Attendances at ante-natal clinics are notified
and ante-natal visits are made by our Health Visitors.

HOSPITAL TREATMENT: The arrangements between the Council and the Elizabeth
Garrett Anderson Hospital for the retention of one cot has continued throughout
the year. Arrangements were made during the year for the admission of two
children to Hospital under these arrangements. Other admissionsduring the
year were made to Archway Hospital, Cromwell House and St.Barts Hospital.
PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA: During 1947 there were 8 cases of
puerperal pyrexia and 4 cases of puerperal fever notified in Finsbury, none
of which proved fatal. This gives a rate per 1,000 Live and Still Births of
15.2 as compared with 7.16 for England and Wales, and 8.15 for the London
Administrative County.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM: The number of cases of Ophthalmia Neonatorum notified
was two. One of these cases were treated home and one in hospital. In
neither case was there impairment of vision.
POST NATAL CLINIC: A post natal clinic was inaugurated at the Health
Centre during 1946.
FOSTER PARENTS: At the end of 1947 there was one registered foster mother
in the borough.
