957 cases have been considered by the Committee at their meetings.
In every case we have tried to help in the manner best suited to their
needs.
Three children were recommended and accepted by the London
County Council for boarding out. In one case the parents withdrew
their consent after arrangements had been made.
The sale of Christmas Seals this year realised the amount of
£112 Is. lOd. The expenses amounted to £8 3s. 11d., leaving the
sum of £103 17s. lid. available for grants. This alone is not
sufficient for our needs, and additional help is obtained from other
appropriate sources—principally for ex-service men—such as weekly
allowances for the home, where the breadwinner is undergoing treatment,
complete outfits of clothing for patients who are going away and
are eligible for help from voluntary sources, and cases where a larger
grant is required for an emergency than we are justified in allowing
from our small fund.
In the campaign for " Prevention " which is the underlying motive
of the Committee's work, money plays an important part, and we'hope
as time goes on, to have a larger fund to draw on.
A report that is now issued annually by the Care Committee, will
enable readers to judge better as to the need for help, and realize what
we have been able to do, only because we have a " Fund." It will also
give an insight into the. human and personal side of our activities,
which cannot be gained from this brief outline of the year's work,
which may be likened to the bare framework on which we build as
" well and truly " as we can.
Before ending, we wish as usual, to acknowledge most gratefully,
the help and co-operation extended to the Committee from all the
organisations with which we come in contact.
