Report of Tuberculosis Officer—continued.
Managers of New Cross Kinema and the Empire again helped
through the artistes who generously gave " turns." To them and
to Mrs. Campbell and other friends who assisted, thanks are due,
particularly to Councillor Taylor, as also to other members of the
Care Committee.
Artificial Light Treatment. In order that this form of treatment
may be given to specially selected cases, the Council
authorised the installation of the necessary equipment, viz., two
carbon arc lamps.
Report of Work of the Tuberculosis Care Committee,
for 1937.
Before commencing our report on the year's work, we wish to place
on record our deep regret and sense of loss occasioned by the death of
Miss Warcup, an old and valued member of the Committee.
There are no important changes in connection with the work to
report on during the year 1937, but the foundation has been laid for
changes in the administration of the regulations for the provision of
clothing for patients undergoing residential treatment by discussions
between the Standing Conference of Metropolitan Boroughs' Tuberculosis
Care Committees, and the appropriate authorities of the London
County Council, which will come into effect in 1938 and will be
reported on in due course.
The Conference has also been busy with preparations for a Sale
and Exhibition of Handicrafts, which will take place in 1938, and
results will appear in the report for that year. Useful work has been
accomplished by this body during 1937—a large amount of credit for
the successful issue of which is due to the Chairman and Honorary
Secretary of the Conference who have dealt with much of the detailed
work of the matters referred to.
During the year, 203 cases have been recommended for treatment.
1,069 visits have been paid to patients at home and in hospital.
1,087 persons have been interviewed at the Dispensary by the
Secretary.
