The average milk adulteration for the whole of London
was at the rate of 2.45 per cent., and for the whole of England
and Wales 7.1 per cent.in 1936.
Condensed Milks.
Five samples of condensed milk were examined, all
of which were satisfactory.
Preservatives.
There were eight contraventions of the Preservatives
Regulations.
5 samples of unlabelled sausages, containing sulphur
dioxide.
1 minced meat, containing sulphur dioxide.
1 ginger wine, containing excess of benzoic acid.
1 sweets, containing excess of sulphur dioxide.
Other samples examined during the year, all for the
Public Health Department, were :—
27 Rag Flocks, 4 of which were unsatisfactory.
3 samples of filth.
1 cigarette.
6 disinfectant fluids and 1 vermin killer under the
Poisons and Pharmacy Act.

SAMPLES TAKEN INFORMALLY 109 samples were taken informally during the year, 5 of which were found to be adulterated as follows:—
