In 3 cases, the patients were multigravida, and the
fourth, a primipara aged 18 years. In one ease the miscarriage
was brought on by fright, and in the remaining cases there
was no apparent cause.
With regard to the two stillbirths, one case was due to
placenta prævia, and the other case due to chronic nephritis,
and both confinements occurred in hospital.
With regard to the premature confinements, two cases
occurred in primigravidæ, one case being due to a twin pregnancy
in a woman suffering from heart disease, and the other
case being due to anaemia. Five cases occurred in multigravidæ,
one case being due to a fall, one to ante partum
hæmorrhage, and the other cases being due to anaemia and
poor general condition.
Finally I should like to record my thanks to the staff
of the Department for their unfailing help and efficient work
during the past year. Ruth C. Townshend.
