ORTHOPÆEDIC SCHEME.
Children found by the medical officers at the
infant consultations or Toddlers' Clinic to be in
need of Orthopædic treatment can be referred to
the Queen's Hospital for Children for opinion and
treatment by the Orthopaedic Surgeon. Massage
and Artificial Sunlight treatment are arranged at
the Centre. 88 children attended the hospital this
year. Three were admitted for operation and the
rest attended as out-patients. Six children were
discharged cured and three have completed their
treatment and attend for observation only. Orthopaedic
treatment takes time to achieve its results
and the relatively small proportion of children
who have completed their treatment is no index
of the value of the work done.
The problem is one of getting the children taken
to the hospital, for although these mothers are willing
to have treatment for their children, they are unable
to attend for it owing to the many demands
