Dr. R. C. Townshend reports on the work of the
Maternity Clinic, as follows :—
Report on the Cornwall Road Ante-Natal Clinic for the year 1933.
I am glad to report an increase in the attendance at the
Clinic of Ante-Natal cases, and especially of Post-Natal cases,
and in each case the increase applies to both first and subsequent
attendances.
There were two Caesarean births, and in one case the patient
had already undergone two previous operations for Caesarean
section. There were no deaths amongst the mothers attending
the Clinic.
With regard to the miscarriages, all occurred in multipara,
and with one exception, were treated by their own doctor or
admitted to hospital, and in every case the patient recovered.
With regard to the still-births, all occurred in multigravida,
In two cases there was a history of ante-partum haemorrhage,
in two cases there was a history of a fall during pregnancy,
and in one case there was a history of a large child, and a
long though spontaneous labour.
With regard to premature confinements, all occurred in
multigravida. In one case there was a history of ante-partum
haemorrhage, and in every case the pregnancy rapidly supervened
after the birth of the last child, the intervals between
the two confinements being respectively 9 months, 11 months,
two at intervals of 15 months, and the longest interval being
21 months.
Two cases of early pregnancy were terminated in hospital.
In both cases the patients were 6 gravida, and in one case
the patient was suffering from heart disease, and in the other
case from kidney disease. In each case the patient made a,
successful recovery.
