general supervision of the Orthopaedic Surgeon. During
the year there were 281 sessions for massage; 84 new
cases were treated, and there were 1,323 treatments.
The new patients treated by Miss Laxvson included 38
children awaiting the attendance of the Orthopaedic
Surgeon at the next session, 29 other children referred
by the Medical Officers for poor muscular develop—
ment, etc., and 17 mothers referred for breast massage,
etc.
INHALATION THERAPY.
The Spiess.Drager inhaling apparatus installed last
year has been increasingly used this year. Pine oil and
Cajuput Oil separately and in combination were used as
Inhalants, mixed with oxygen under pressure. An
attempt to extend the treatment to mothers as well as
children was made, but so far not many have availed
themselves of this opportunity. It is felt that the
number will increase as the success that is met with in
this treatment becomes more generally known.
Sixteen children were still under treatment at the
end of 1929 and were carried forward.
141 Sessions were held during the year, and there
were: —
84 First attendances by Children.
564 Subsequent attendances.
3 First attendances by Mothers.
24 Subsequent attendances.
Bronchitis, Asthma and Catarrhal conditions of the
upper air passages have been successfully treated. Only
one case was discharged without relief, the majority
making definite improvement in varying lengths of
time. The treatment is simple and pleasant and so is
easily given to quite young children and it is usually
enjoyed by both children and mothers.
