cases the application of splinits resulted iin correction of the
deformity.
Relatively few cases have had to be admitted for
operative correction.
Occasionally some difficulty is experienced in persuading
parents of the need of continual splintage, but there
has been a noticeable improvement in their co.operation
during the year.
IN.PATIENT TREATMENT.
Dr. Seddon also furnishes the following notes concerning
the children who received in.patient treatment
during the year, 1931: —
E.S., aged 2, was admitted on July 22nd, 1931,
with severe rickets. Both tibiae were bowed and required
osteoclasis, which was performed on August 10th. She was
discharged on October 5th with perfectly straight legs.
A.D., aged 3, was admitted on January 13th, 1931,
with an equino cavo varus deformity of the left foot following
Infantile Paralysis. On January 29th a Steindler operation
was performed, and on May 5th and June 6th further
manipulations were performed which gave the child an
almost normal foot. There was considerable recovery in
the paralysed muscles, and he was discharged walking well
on August 10th.
C.H., aged 3½, was admitted on January 8th, 1931,
with knock.knees following rickets. On February 12th a
bilateral supracondylar osteotomy was performed. He was
discharged on May 2nd with straight legs.
L.C., aged 3, was admitted on July 13th, 1931, with
severe rickets. She improved rapidly under anti.rachitic
treatment and it was not necessary to perform any operation
on the tibiae. Such bowing as was present on admission
improved spontaneously. She was discharged on October
24th.
R.S., aged 1 year 11 months, was admitted on July
29th, 1931, with rickets. As active disease had almost
subsided on August 14th, it was possible to do an osteoclasis
for bowing of the tibiae. He was discharged walking well
on October 24th.
